A Love Letter to Marin
Obsessed with mountain biking, this client & tech founder feels most inspired when cycling in Marin. However, his community is in San Francisco, so he opted to purchase his residence in the city. But we wanted to pay tribute to his favorite region across the Golden Gate bridge, so we took photos & videos from his favorite trails in the Summer & Winter months to design his 2 bathrooms into sources of inspiration — uniquely designed to tell his story.

Summer Bathroom
Handmade tiles cascade as a gradient, evolving from the red clay ground into a streak of sunshine into the lush, mossy green forest. A custom mirror spans the vanity wall to reflect the surroundings, a nod to getting lost in the dense redwood forest. A gray concrete sink pays tribute to the rocky gravel roads along the trails & we swapped out the ceiling for a giant, custom Italian-made LED light fixture to embody the blinding sun.
The result? A space primed as the perfect backdrop to fuel his imagination.
Winter Bathroom
The walls covered in a waterproof plaster finish cascade down as a nod to the winter haze & fog. The hand-painted floor tile is shaped to embody the fractured lines on the red clay forest ground. A custom green concrete sink speaks to the mossy green redwood trees of the surrounding forest & the asymmetrical pendant light has a mix of opaque & transparent bulbs, another nod to the hazy surroundings.
Ultimately, this bathroom feels like a warm, cozy hug.
